The Society For Biomaterials’ 2017 meeting website is now online at:

The Society For Biomaterials’ 2017 Annual Meeting, will be held April 5-8, 2017 in Minneapolis, MN.

The theme for the 2017 Annual Meeting is Where Materials Become Medicine, with Minneapolis in the heart of Medical Alley, that may be more true here than anywhere else in the world. In keeping with that theme, the Program Committee is developing a program which focuses on biomaterial research specifically oriented to clinical application with commercial impact. Major themes will include: 3D Printing, Cells, Drug Delivery, Immune Response, and Regulatory Issues, and Translation.

The Society’s Annual Meeting focuses on fostering development of new implant materials and devices for improvement of the human condition. The meeting program will include the latest innovations in materials science, molecular and cell biology and engineering, new opportunities and mechanisms for translation of these findings to new or improved medical treatments.  The meeting format will include Symposia, General Sessions, Workshops, Panel Discussions, and Tutorials, covering all aspects of basic, applied, and translational biomaterials science.

TWO NEW SESSION FORMATS: Biomaterials Technology in Industry & Thought Leader Symposia!

Biomaterials Technology in Industry: In recognition of the fact that speakers from industry need to protect their intellectual property, it is understood that some technical details cannot be disclosed. SFB is introducing “Biomaterials Technology in Industry” sessions that will relax some of the typically rigorous scientific requirements for these specific sessions.  Abstracts submitted to categories within the BIOMATERIALS TECHNOLOGY IN INDUSTRY track (annotated with a *BTI* on the abstract category submission list) will be subject to loosened requirements. In recognition that speakers from industry need to protect their intellectual property, it is understood that some technical details cannot be disclosed. “Biomaterials Technology in Industry” abstracts should:

Comply with the financial interest disclosures required of all authors;
Follow the standard abstract submission template, with allowable relaxation of the typically rigorous "methods" section, as appropriate to ensure that proprietary information is not compromised;
Summarize the information the author intends to convey during the session;
May be purposely vague in areas that concern proprietary information;
Not be commercially driven, and should not promote specific products, or make product claims.

NOTE: These sessions will be specifically delineated as distinct from the Scientific Program of the Annual Meeting with the loosened requirements articulated ubiquitously.

Thought Leader Symposia: The Program Committee has invited several thought leaders from various disciplines to contribute sessions of their own design to the 2017 Annual Meeting.  Pending the acceptance of these invitations, a list of the invited thought leaders, and the topics of their sessions will be published in the near future.  Thought leader symposia may or may not solicit abstract submissions.
